Ingui Architecture, formerly Baxt Ingui Architects, is an award-winning firm that has been a leader in design and sustainability for over 45 years.

Meet The Team

Our design process relies on collaboration with our clients and extends to the builders, consultants, and craftspeople involved in bringing the project to life. It is our goal to integrate function, aesthetics and building systems economically and minimize environmental impact, using the standards of LEED and Passive House certification.

We aim to create well-composed spaces, placing a high value on ensuring each project is well crafted, visually timeless, and serves its inhabitants for many years. We have extensive experience in residential, institutional, and commercial projects.

The firm was initiated by Ben Baxt in 1977 after several years as a single practitioner in Brooklyn. Michael Ingui joined the firm in 1994 and became a partner in 2000. An in-house interior design company, BIA Interiors, was established in partnership with the late Heather Tilev to create a seamless interior and architectural design process. We are continuing this integrated architectural and design process as Ingui Architecture as of 2023.

The firm has become known as a leader in high-performance retrofits in the worldwide Passive House community. Our sustainability efforts have led to recognition and grants, most recently a NYSERDA Buildings of Excellence Award for our Passive Firehouse Retrofit.

As a firm, we are committed to giving back to the communities in which we work. We are an active pro bono service provider and supporter of many non-profit efforts in NYC and beyond, including Haiti and Ethiopia. For over 35 years, we have partnered with Brooklyn Community Housing and Services, providing pro bono technical assistance and designing multiple projects.

2012 Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award

Our restoration of this 1816 wood-framed townhouse was honored at the 2012 Lucy G. Moses Preservation Awards.

2016 AIA Brooklyn & Queens Design Awards

Two of our Passive Houses were honored at the 2016 AIA Brooklyn & Queens Design Awards, winning both the Design Award of Excellence and the Design Award of Merit in the 1-2 Family Residential Category.

2016 Building Brooklyn Award

Our Brooklyn Heights Historic District Passive House won the Historic Restoration category of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce's Building Brooklyn Awards.

BCS One Brooklyn Community Partner Award

Baxt Ingui Architects was awarded the One Brooklyn Community Partner Award for providing pro-bono design and support for the new BCS Coney Island Community Service Center.

Brooklyn Community Housing and Services 2015 Gala

Brooklyn Community Housing and Services honored our founder, Ben Baxt, for his 25 years of pro bono work at the Talented Brooklyn 2015 Gala.

Brownstoner RADD Awards
