Can a Warehouse be a Passive House? - Reimagine Buildings

Media Sustainability

We've had a great time dipping our toes into a new type of passive house construction – the first certified passive warehouse in the United States!

Thanks to Cathy Hobbs for presenting us with the opportunity to expand our passive practice into the commercial space. We stepped inside the building under construction with Cathy, Baxter Built, and Passive House Accelerator for a deeper look into what makes the project so remarkable.

Highland Passive House is located in the heart of the Hudson Valley, surrounded by orchards and near to the vibrant community of Highland. The building consists of Ecocor structural insulated panels, prefabricated in Maine. When completed, it will contain an office and studio space, 9,000 square feet of warehouse space, electric vehicle charging stations, and a massive solar array.

When interior designer and entrepeneur Cathy Hobbs needed space for her home staging business, she didn't know she was about to be making one of the most energy efficient in the country.
