Before & After: Bold Brooklyn Heights Kitchen

Design

Our goals for this Brooklyn Heights Renovation included transforming the rear parlor floor by reconfiguring the space. We strove for a more functional layout, bright and contemporary finishes, and better structured spatial relationships.

A large bay window at the rear extension previously housed a casual dining area.

To take full advantage of the space, we converted the space into a chef's kitchen. Replacing the windows and adding French doors to the rear yard fostered indoor-outdoor communication.

The kitchen was previously tucked into a corner, making it feel cramped and inefficient. When we moved the kitchen, we had the opportunity to do something fun with that space.

Adding a banquette with bright red wallpapered walls created a fashionable breakfast nook that feels distinct in character and space from the rest of the kitchen.

The large island serves a dual purpose – increasing cooking space and facilitating casual dining at the rear parlor.

A large skylight above the island transforms the room, taking it from a dark, poorly thought-out leftover space to a crown jewel of the renovated home.
